1 Utama Security Finally Nabs Elderly Man Often Seen Asking Shoppers For Money

A visitor claimed she encountered the man in the mall's parking lot on Saturday, 6 September.

1 Utama Shopping Centre has confirmed the arrest of an elderly man who was frequently seen approaching shoppers in the mall's carpark to ask for money

In a statement on Tuesday, 9 September, the mall said its customer service team took immediate action after receiving a report, escalating the matter to ensure shopper safety.

Additional patrols and surveillance were deployed to the carpark, with security personnel instructed to immediately locate the man.

The mall confirmed that its security personnel apprehended the 73-year-old suspect around 7.30pm on Sunday, 7 September

He was handed over to the police for further action, while three other individuals linked to the incident were also apprehended.

"We wish to reassure everyone that your safety and comfort remain our utmost priority to ensure 1 Utama remains a safe destination for all visitors," the mall said.

The management also urged shoppers to report any future incidents directly to their team at +603-77108118 for immediate action.

Frequent shoppers have since commended the mall for its swift action and thanked it for prioritising their safety.
