When Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim liked not one but three of Timothy Tiah's posts on Instagram, the 41-year-old entrepreneur knew his content was making an impact…

Or at least, started the kind of conversation he hoped for.

"It was surreal," Tiah laughed. "But also, kind of encouraging that what I'm talking about matters."

On 21 September, Tiah shared a video of him revealing to his son that Anwar had just liked one of his latest videos.

The candid clip, filmed in the middle of the night in his son's bedroom, quickly went viral with over 430,000 views. Many netizens thanked Tiah for consistently creating educational and easy-to-follow videos on current issues.

Others, however, teased him after his son jokingly said he was not "good enough" to deserve the prime minister's attention.

Following his rise to fame on Instagram, we reached out to the entrepreneur to learn more about his journey and what drives his content

Speaking to us at Colony @ The Met, Mont Kiara, one of his 16 coworking offices he runs, Tiah said his Instagram following has grown from about 30,000 to 110,000 this year.

His content revolves around finance, history, government policies, and everything in between.

In the past eight months, his personal brand has grown so much that he's been getting brand deals and even inquiries about his coworking business.

When he is not creating content, he helms Colony, one of Malaysia's most recognisable luxury coworking space brands.

If you are wondering why making content comes so naturally to him, it is probably because he is the co-founder of Nuffnang, Southeast Asia's first blog advertising network, established in 2007.

The company eventually expanded into an influencer, content, and advertising management agency, and went public in Australia in 2015. Tiah left the following year to start Colony.

When asked at what age he became a millionaire, he replied, "On paper, maybe 23. Actual cash millionaire, maybe 26."

After years away from the creator scene, Tiah began making content again in early 2025

Creating and managing content at scale isn't new to him. Running Nuffnang meant dealing with multiple departments, hundreds of creators, and countless brand campaigns.

"I post about three times a day.

"I know people say you need a niche, but I don't follow that. I talk about whatever I find interesting — from how businesses work to how government policies affect us," he said.

He treats content like he treats business: with structure and discipline. His process involves research, brainstorming ideas with AI, fact-checking, and documenting sources.

While he uses AI for ideation, he relies on his own research for accuracy. Every video is supported by verified information, a standard he upholds strictly, especially when discussing topics like government policy and history.

A small team of freelancers and one assistant help him edit and manage the content pipeline.

Tiah's content also reflects his grounded side. He's married to Audrey Ooi, better known as @fourfeetnine, one of Malaysia's pioneer bloggers. The two met at a blogger event back in the day, long before influencer culture became mainstream.

Now, both are parents and creators who've evolved with the internet itself.

Despite his success, Tiah insists he doesn't "optimise for money".

"I optimise for relationships," he said. "I'm very blessed to have good people around me. My wife, my kids, my team… that's what keeps me happy."
