If you've been eyeing 1 Utama's new licence plate recognition (LPR) parking system but don't have a ONECard, you'll have to hang tight a little longer

The mall told SAYS that the cardless parking system will eventually be available to all drivers, but for now, it remains an exclusive perk for ONECard members while they iron out the kinks.

Under the recently launched system, registered ONECard members can enter and exit without tapping a card.

Your number plate gets scanned at the boom gate, and parking fees are automatically deducted from your 1PAY e-Wallet in the 1 Utama SuperApp.

The convenience comes with one important catch: once you register for LPR, you can't go back to using your physical ONECard for parking

However, you can still use it in stores to collect UPoints.

To keep things simple, 1 Utama has also merged car park credits with your 1PAY balance in the app, so you only need to make sure your e-wallet has enough funds before parking.

There's no minimum amount required for entry, so even if you're down to a couple of ringgit, you're still good.

Registration is a one-way street — once you've switched to LPR, you can't undo it — so if you're a ONECard member thinking of making the leap, make sure you're ready to say goodbye to the physical card at the boom gate.

For now, 1 Utama hasn't set a date to open the LPR system to all visitors

A mall spokesperson told SAYS they're taking things one step at a time to ensure a smooth experience for all shoppers.

If you're a ONECard user ready to switch to the cardless system, here's how:

1. Register your vehicle(s) on the 1 Utama SuperApp under the 'PARK' icon to enjoy the cheaper ONECard parking rates.

2. When you arrive, the system will scan your plate at the boom gate, let you in, and automatically deduct your parking fee from your 1PAY e-Wallet.
