A Japanese company has announced plans to start commercial production of a riding robot that combines the functions of a motorcycle and a horse

The unique concept, known as Corleo, is designed to help humans travel safely across rough terrain where other vehicles or walking are not feasible.

Kawasaki Heavy Industries, the company behind the robot, stated that sales for Corleo are scheduled to begin by 2035.

The robot, which resembles a lion, weighs about 200kg and can support a rider of up to 100kg, bringing the total weight to roughly 300kg.

Corleo is powered by a hydrogen engine that generates electricity for its batteries

It has four hydrogen tanks, which Takahiro Ueno, project manager of the Safe Adventure development team, said are sufficient for a day's travel.

He added that for extended journeys far from civilisation, users are advised to bring spare hydrogen tanks.

The robot is controlled by a steering wheel and a foot lever, similar to a stirrup on a horse.

Kawasaki also plans to incorporate voice functions into Corleo, enabling it to speak and hold conversations with its rider

The decision to commercialise Corleo was prompted by the strong interest the concept generated at the recent Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan.

While Ueno could not confirm an exact price, he speculated that it would be significantly less than 100 million yen (RM2.64 million).

He estimated the final price would likely be in the range of tens of thousands of US dollars.
