[WATCH] Brillante Mendoza’s First Trailer For His Cannes Entry ‘Ma’ Rosa’
After his 2015 Cannes entry Taklub received the Un Certain Regard award, Brillante Mendoza returns to join the Cannes Film Festival's main competition line-up with his Ma' Rosa.
It was announced last Thursday, 28 April, that Brillante Mendoza's entry, Ma' Rosa made it to the competition line-up for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival

The two-minute trailer shows Jaclyn Jose (who starred in Mendoza's first Cannes film, Serbis) being cuffed in her small store during a buy-bust operation.
Mendoza's first Cannes entry was Serbis (Service) which got nominated for the Palme d'Or award in 2008
In 2009, his Kinatay film received the Best Director award and was also nominated for the Palme d'Or. Last year, Mendoza's Taklub Cannes entry received the Ecunumical Jury Prize and it was about the survivors of the super typhoon *Yolanda* starring the Superstar herself, Nora Aunor. The Jury Prize is considered the third-most prestigious prize at the film festival, after the Palme d'Or and Grand Pix, according to [Wikipedia] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jury_Prize_(Cannes_Film_Festival)).

Mendoza's latest oeuvre will compete with the director and Oscar-winning actor Sean Penn's The Last Face and Palme d'Or winners Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne's The Unknown Girl.

The film stars Andi Eigenmann, Felix Roco, Jaclyn Rose, Jomari Angeles, Julio Diaz, Kristofer King, Maria Isabel Lopez and Mercedes Cabral.
