The Thai government has officially approved an extended five-day New Year holiday, declaring Friday, 2 January 2026, as a special public holiday
That means the New Year break will stretch from Wednesday, 31 December 2025, to Sunday, 4 January 2026.
According to Bangkok Post, the move aims to boost domestic travel and support local businesses, especially those still recovering from tough economic times.

A government spokesperson said the extended break is expected to encourage more people to travel, stay at hotels, and spend on food and activities.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand is also planning special promotions and travel packages across major cities to make the most of the long weekend

Banks will close on 2 January, but private companies can decide whether to take the day off, so employees are advised to check with their HR before booking that beach trip.
With the break running from 31 December 2025 to 4 January 2026, major tourist spots in Thailand are expecting higher traffic.
So it's best to book hotels and transport early, and allow some extra travel time if you're hitting the road.
