A 66-year-old Shanghai woman has garnered online attention after spending two million yuan (RM1.2 million) on online shopping

She even resorted to renting a second flat just to store her unopened purchases, Kan Kan News reported.

Identified as Wang, her extreme buying habits have sparked widespread discussion on social media regarding the mental wellbeing of senior citizens.

Wang, who lives alone in Shanghai's Jiading district, has accumulated a mountain of packages from various online platforms over the past few years.

Her flat is now so crammed that items are piled to the ceiling, leaving her with no space to sleep

She also owns an underground garage, which is similarly overflowing with goods.

Wang admitted to her online shopping addiction, saying the act of spending gives her a sense of excitement

She also revealed a rather unconventional motive: to deter relatives and friends from borrowing money from her.

"To prevent other people from borrowing money from me, I choose to spend it buying things," she explained.

"When they see piles of stuff in my home, they will feel it is not appropriate to ask me to lend them money."

Her purchases mainly consist of cosmetics, health supplements, and gold jewellery, often bought during live-streaming sessions

Neighbours have reportedly complained about foul odours, cockroaches, and flies around her property, leading authorities to order a clean-up.

However, despite interventions, Wang's hoarding continues.

According to a residential committee official, Wang's daughter lives abroad and her relatives rarely visit her.
