A man from Uttar Pradesh, India, caused a stir after allegedly eloping with his son's fiancée, taking a large sum of money and gold with him

The 55-year-old, identified as Shakeel, is a father of six and a grandfather of three.

According to NDTV, he had arranged for his 15-year-old son, Aman, to marry a 22-year-old woman named Ayesha from a nearby village.

However, Shakeel's wife, Shabana, grew suspicious when she allegedly caught her husband acting intimately with Ayesha on two separate occasions.

After discovering intimate photos and frequent video calls on his phone, his wife's suspicions of an affair were confirmed

"He used to video call her the whole day. At first, no one believed me. Then my son and I collected evidence against them," she reportedly said.

Upon learning of the affair, Aman called off the engagement.

Shortly after, Shakeel informed his family he was leaving for work in Delhi before disappearing with Ayesha, and allegedly took over 200,000 rupees (approximately RM9,900) in cash and gold from the family home.

Shakeel, a Muslim, later called his wife to inform her that he and Ayesha were now married

Distraught, Aman alleged that his grandparents knew of his father's affairs and even supported him to get married.

Muslim personal laws in India permit polygamy, allowing Muslim men to have up to four wives under specific conditions.

The police have stated that no formal complaint has been filed, but they will take action if a family member comes forward.
