Therese Malvar, formerly known as "Teri Malvar", is now 15 years old and is already bagging awards from film festivals!

The film itself gained a lot of recognition, earning her Best Actress awards from the Cinefilipino Film Festival (2013) and Cinema One Originals Digital Film Festival (2015).
This May, Malvar has just received another recognition as one of the three Screen International Rising Star Asia awardees!
In celebration of the New York Asian Film Festival's ([NYFF] (https://www.facebook.com/NYAFF))15th anniversary (which started this 22 June and will end on 9 July), it has selected Japan's Go Ayano (*Rorouni Kenshin*, *Lupin*), Taiwan's Jelly Lin (*The Mermaid*) and the Philippines's very own Teri Malvar (*Ang Huling Cha-Cha Ni Anita*, *Hamog*) as the recipients of the Screen International Rising Star Asia awards, according to [Screen Daily] (http://www.screendaily.com/festivals/cannes/screens-asian-rising-stars-revealed-by-nyaff/5103862.article).
"**I would like to thank the New York Asian Film Festival for believing in me. This recognition will continue to fire-up my passion in acting and be a game-changer in this industry.** *Mabuhay ang talentong Pilipino*," Malvar said, according to [PEP] (http://www.pep.ph/guide/movies/23643/therese-teri-malvar-to-be-honored-at-15th-new-york-asian-film-festival).
This month, Malvar starred as the main character in another independent film, Hamog (Haze), directed by Ralston Jover
*Hamog* won the *Outstanding Artistic Achievement Golden Goblet award* at the 2016 Shanghai International Film Festival. It was also the festival's centerpiece presentation to be shown on 1 July.
[Mike Hale] (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/people/h/mike_hale/index.html) of The New York Times was pleased enough to give a fresh peek on the film. "A Filipino descendant of Hector Babenco's great muckraking Brazilian drama, *Pixote*, the film focuses on four street kids who sleep in an abandoned drain pipe lined with cardboard and rob drivers stuck in Manila's epic traffic jams."
"Alternately tragic, bittersweet and frightening, the film traces the consequences for the kids when a shakedown of a taxi driver goes sideways," added Hale in his article, '[New York Asian Film Festival Is Having a Southeast Asian Moment] (http://www.nytimes.com/2016/06/22/movies/new-york-asian-film-festival-is-having-a-southeast-asian-moment.html?mwrsm=Facebook&_r=0)'.
*Hamog* previously won four awards at the [Cinema One Originals] (https://www.facebook.com/CinemaOneOriginals/): Special Jury Prize, Best Actress (Malvar), Best Supporting Actor (Bor Lentejas) and editing (Charliebebs Gohetia). Next stop for the gritty drama is the Moscow International Film Festival, June 23-30, according to the [Philippine Daily Inquirer] (http://entertainment.inquirer.net/196450/hamog-wins-in-shanghai).
Malvar has already won three Best Actress awards since she was 12 years old!
But even then, she still gets shocked whenever she wins an award. "*Nagulat po ako and very overwhelmed. Parang naalala po nila ako. And I'm the first Filipino to receive an award [from the NYFF]. At saka happy po ako that they recognized my acting. Very unexpected po kasi this time international po,*" said Malvar in an [interview] (http://www.gmanetwork.com/entertainment/gma/articles/2016-05-20/23146/Teri-Malvar-bags-New-York-Asian-Film-Festivals-Screen-International-Rising-Star-Asia-award) with GMA News.
Malvar said in an interview that she gives out all her best in every role that she portrays and she loves all the characters that she has delineated in front of the camera.
"**Favorite ko po lahat ng characters sa films na ginawa ko po kasi they would always shed light on serious issues that the media don't tackle that much**," said Malvar, according to her interview with [News Ninja] (http://newsninja1.blogspot.my/2016/05/kapuso-actress-therese-malvar-to.html).
Gaining recognition at a young age only made Malvar more humble and grateful
"*Thankful po ako sa lahat ng award, pero mas naging excited po ako kasi first time ako magkakaroon ng international award, and it's my first time to fly abroad. Parang this will be a new experience and adventure rin po*," said Malvar in an [interview] (http://www.gmanetwork.com/entertainment/gma/articles/2016-05-20/23146/Teri-Malvar-bags-New-York-Asian-Film-Festivals-Screen-International-Rising-Star-Asia-award) with GMA News.
