A Malaysian's playful question about a particularly plump black panther has caught the attention of Zoo Negara after he visited the national zoo last week

"Can Zoo Negara please explain why this black panther is so chonky and cute?" asked TikTok user @oldmonkeyalkaff, who visited the zoo after redeeming free birthday month tickets.

He shared a short 15-second clip of the giant cat lounging and rolling on the grass under the sun.

The video quickly went viral, racking up over 2.2 million views in just four days. While some viewers expressed concern, many responded with lighthearted jokes.

"This isn't 'Wakanda Forever', this is nasi kandar forever," one netizen quipped.

"I'm confused, is this a bear or panther?" another joked.

"It's so cute, I want to hug it!" someone gushed.

"Oh nooo, even panthers can't escape obesity in Malaysia," another chimed in.

Following the viral video, Zoo Negara responded in the comments, reassuring the public that the panther — whose name is Apoh — is being well cared for

"Thank you so much to everyone for the concern!" the zoo wrote.

"Don't worry — our vet team is taking care of Apoh with lots of love, giving him the best treatment and close attention. They're monitoring Apoh closely and making sure he's doing well.

"We truly appreciate all the encouraging words to help Apoh reach his ideal weight," they said.
