Malaysians with faulty MyKad chips can now replace their cards free of charge at any National Registration Department (JPN) office or counter nationwide from today, 23 September, until 7 October
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the initiative is part of government efforts to support the newly-announced BUDI95 targeted subsidy programme.
According to the New Straits Times, he stressed that the government is committed to ensuring no eligible Malaysian misses out on the subsidies due to technical problems with their MyKad.

JPN records show a recent sharp increase in replacement requests for damaged or faulty cards
From January to August 2025 alone, the department received 294,715 such applications.
"The figures show a rising trend in recent months, with 32,819 applications in June, increasing to 40,371 in July, and 45,411 in August. As of 21 September, there have already been 22,858 applications," Saifuddin said.

He added that the free replacement exercise is expected to cost the government about RM714,660, including associated expenses
"I urge Malaysians to always ensure that their MyKad is kept in good condition, as it is not only an identification document but also the key to various government services, including targeted subsidies under BUDI95," he said.
Saifuddin also reaffirmed the government's commitment to care and inclusivity in delivering its promised benefits.
According to China Press, long queues were already seen this morning, 23 September, at the JPN headquarters in Putrajaya.
