Faith is often described as a journey of the heart, but for one woman in Manila, the Philippines, that journey took a detour through a swamp
For four years, she maintained a daily ritual of offering incense and prayers to what she believed was a sacred green Buddha statue.
According to the South China Morning Post, the figure, which featured a round physique and a gentle expression, held a place of honour on her home altar.
She purchased the item from a local shop, convinced that its serene appearance was a depiction of the enlightened one.
However, the illusion was shattered during a recent visit from a friend.

Upon closer inspection of the statue's distinct lime-green hue and facial features, the friend pointed out that the object of her devotion was actually a 3D-printed model of Shrek
Rather than being mortified by the revelation that she had been praying to a fictional DreamWorks ogre, the woman remained remarkably Zen.
She expressed that the sincerity of her intentions outweighed the physical form of the statue, noting that faith with good intentions mattered more than appearances.
"Devotion and faith in God come from within. So what if she worshipped Shrek? What matters is that the devotion is sincere," one social media user remarked, echoing the woman's sentiment.
The woman reportedly intends to keep the figure on her altar
For her, the 'all-star' ogre remains a symbol of the peace she found during her four years of prayer.
The story has since gone viral, with netizens finding humour in the mix-up.
One commenter jokingly suggested that the moral of the story is that sometimes, you need to watch cartoons too.
