Amid the global craze for Labubu dolls, a video has surfaced online showing an Indian woman fervently worshipping one of the toys, believing it to be a Chinese deity
In the clip, which has been shared widely on TikTok and X, the woman is seen performing traditional rituals and offering prasad (a religious food offering) to the doll.
The toy is renowned for its quirky, snaggle-toothed design.
The video was posted with a caption that read, "An Indian girl told her mother that Labubu is a Chinese god. Just hearing this, she started worshipping Labubu. Jai Labubu."
Reactions were mixed, with many viewers finding the cultural mix-up hilarious, while others pointed out the innocence of the gesture.
Created by Hong Kong-born artist Kasing Lung, Labubu dolls were originally inspired by Nordic mythology. They exploded in popularity after being spotted with celebrities like BLACKPINK's Lisa and Rihanna.
The dolls can cost anywhere from around RM98 for standard editions to a staggering RM58,800 for rare collector's items.
One user commented on the video, "I see a woman who can accept anything… who sees divinity in everything… Just Indian things."
