Ummul Afifah Husna Mansor, a 24-year-old mother from Dungun, Terengganu recently achieved a significant academic milestone by scoring two As and four Bs in her Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM)
According to Harian Metro, having married at the age of 14 and discontinued her schooling a year later, Ummul Afifah Husna decided to register as a private candidate last year to finally pursue her secondary school certification.
She prepared for the examinations in less than four months while caring for her three children, aged 4, 6, and 9.
Her desire to sit for SPM came when she took her child to see a doctor
"He [the doctor] said that even if he wanted to explain my child's illness, I wouldn't be able to understand because he knew my level of education," Ummul Afifah Husna said.
She was also influenced by a friend who married young but went on to build a career as a nurse in Australia, motivating her to prove her own potential.
Her husband, Azri, 27, supported her journey by managing household responsibilities and caring for the children, and he plans to continue funding her future educational pursuits.
Ummul Afifah Husna now plans to enrol in a long-distance diploma programme specialising in Computer Science to eventually enter the professional workforce
She aims to secure a suitable job once her children are older, viewing her early marriage as a blessing that allowed her to support her mother, who has a disability.
Her father died when she was 17.
"For me, it is not too late to continue studying because I am only in my early 20s," she added, noting that her dream of attending university remains alive.
