A Taiping woman met an unpleasant surprise when she prepared to break fast on Tuesday, 24 February
In a viral TikTok video, the woman said that when she tore open her fried chicken, purportedly purchased at Taman Jana Bazaar, she found it wriggling with live maggots.
In her caption, she remarked, "The worms are dancing."

The woman said she had not cooked that day as she wanted to support local traders at the bazaar
She wrote about her disappointment over the trader's lack of food hygiene and how it spoiled the joyous mood of breaking fast.
"Please, traders, if you want to do business, let there be blessings. We buy with money, not for free. Don't neglect cleanliness and food quality just to make a quick profit. This is not just a loss of money, but it spoils the mood of breaking fast as a family!"
The woman then urged other traders to take this incident as a lesson.
Luckily, her son had not yet eaten the spoiled food, and a friend sent her properly cooked rice and dishes.

Disgusted netizens urged her to lodge a report, and shared similar experiences
One netizen wrote that their brother had purchased fried chicken for breaking fast, which was hot and crispy on the outside.
However, he vomited upon realising the insides were crawling with maggots.

Other netizens implored her to lodge a health report and request a refund from the stall.

The woman's experience is not the only case of contaminated products at Ramadan bazaars
The New Straits Times reported that Johor authorities are investigating a similar case of maggot-infested chicken purchased from a bazaar.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health (MOH) urged shoppers to be vigilant and maintain good hygiene during the Ramadan season, as crowded bazaars can be hotspots for the spread of infectious diseases.
