A woman was shocked to discover a dead lizard in her bowl of pan mee at an eatery in Tawau, Sabah

According to a Facebook post, republished by local page 沙巴大声公, the woman was eating breakfast with her family at the eatery when she saw a lizard's head peering up at her from inside her bowl.

"I screamed, dropped my chopsticks and spoon, and ran straight to the toilet to throw up. After that, I went to inform the restaurant staff about the problem," she wrote.

However, the staff's reaction left her stunned.

She said the staff tried to tell her that the lizard must have fallen into her bowl while she was eating.

"But I replied, how could it have fallen in from above? Just look at the lizard's body — it's clearly soft and has been boiling in the soup!" she wrote.

The customer said the staff then began shifting the blame, and when she asked to speak to the boss, they told her that the boss had been admitted to the hospital.

Not wanting to cause a commotion in front of other diners, the woman then approached the cashier to resolve the matter.

But instead of receiving an apology, she was handed a bill.

"I asked if they seriously expected me to pay, and the cashier replied, 'If you want to pay, you can. If you don't want to, that's fine too.'"

Offended by the lack of accountability, she said she warned the staff that she would be filing a complaint with the Health Ministry, to which the staff replied, "Go ahead."

The woman said she was appalled by the incident and has since reported it to the authorities.
