A woman fell to her death after the safety rope snapped while she was on a cliff swing ride in Sichuan, China

According to Hong Kong daily The Standard, the incident occurred at the Maliuyan Waterfall in Huaying on Sunday, 3 May.

The victim, identified only as Liu, was heard in a viral video repeatedly shouting that her safety harness was "not tight enough" as she was being pushed off the platform.

Despite her concerns, a staff member proceeded to release her. The rope snapped shortly after she left the platform, sending her plunging onto the cliff.

Local authorities confirmed Liu died on the way to hospital

Authorities have ordered the scenic site to close for rectification. The incident has been preliminarily classified as a production safety responsibility accident, and investigations are underway to determine those accountable.

The operator, identified as Chongqing Adventure Camp, an outdoor adventure company, had previously promoted the cliff swing attraction on its public WeChat account in March.

In a separate notice, the site announced a temporary closure from 4 to 10 May for equipment inspection and maintenance, citing force majeure factors.
