The widow of a motorcyclist who was killed in a drunk driving crash in Klang will receive a monthly Survivors' Pension of RM2,888.17 from Social Security Organisation (PERKESO), providing long-term financial support for her and her three children

The victim, 33-year-old Amirul Hafiz Omar, died after being hit by a car along Jalan Raya Barat on 29 March.

Checks by PERKESO found that Amirul had been an active contributor under the Employees' Social Security Act 1969, making his dependents eligible for continued financial assistance.

He had worked at TVH Malaysia Sdn Bhd for 15 years.

His widow will receive lifetime support, while their children are covered until adulthood

PERKESO said Amirul's widow, Nor Nadia Abdul Majid, 32, will receive the monthly payments for life.

Their three children, Muhammad Aqif Amsyar, Muhammad Afif Izz Rayqal, and Nur Humaira, aged between 2 and 9, will also be supported financially until they turn 21 or until they complete their first degree.

"The late Amirul Hafiz's records meet the eligibility requirements under the Invalidity Scheme, thus qualifying his dependants to receive the Survivors' Pension as a form of continuous financial support," said PERKESO Group CEO Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed.

In addition to the monthly payments, the family was also given a one-off Funeral Management Benefit of RM3,000.

Perkeso said contributions have now become a "lifeline" for the family

Mohammed Azman said the payments would help ensure the family's long-term livelihood following the sudden loss.

"His contributions now serve as a lifeline for his wife and their children. The loss of a loved one cannot be replaced, but the social protection provided by Perkeso can serve as an important safeguard."

He added that consistent contributions play a critical role in protecting families from financial hardship in unexpected situations.

The case is still ongoing, with the driver charged in court

The fatal crash has since led to criminal charges.

On 1 April, 28-year-old R Saktygaanapathy was charged at the Klang Magistrate's Court with the murder of Amirul Hafiz.

The driver pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs at the time of the incident.

It said cases like this highlight how social protection can make a critical difference when tragedy strikes.

The agency added that coverage has also recently been expanded to gig workers under the Gig Workers Act 2025, which came into force on 31 March.
