An ice cream vendor has reportedly been arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a customer

What was intended to be a brief layover in Istanbul for a female tourist turned into a nightmare when she was allegedly sexually harassed by a Turkish ice cream vendor.

Earlier this month, the woman sought advice from netizens by posting a video clip of the incident on the r/femaletravels and r/AskTurkey subreddits.

The establishment was subsequently closed, and the vendor has reportedly been arrested.

Here's the video of the incident:

The victim expressed deep frustration at herself for not confronting the ice cream vendor more directly

In her post, she conveyed feelings of being "disgusted, humiliated, angry, and sad".

Recounting the incident, the victim explained that her brief layover in the country left her with no choice but to depart the following morning. The situation left her feeling angry at herself for "not doing anything about it" and "letting him get away".

Saying she would do anything to get him to face some kind of consequence for the crime, the victim said she planned to report the incident to the tourism police.

İnan Güney, the Mayor of Beyoğlu Municipality, responded to the matter on X

He said the establishment has since been shut down, and the seller was subsequently arrested.

"Beyoğlu is a district where all women can walk safely, and we will take every measure to ensure it remains so," said the mayor on X.

Here's the video of the ice cream store being shut down.
