Seven people, including a 9-year-old girl, were injured after an ambulance ploughed into two cars and four motorcycles at a busy traffic light intersection in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur
KL Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the crash occurred at about 8.10am on Monday, 22 December, at the Jalan Usahawan 6 traffic light intersection.
"Preliminary investigations found that a car travelling straight from Wangsa Maju entered the intersection on a green light.
"At the same time, a Malaysian Red Crescent Society (PBSM) ambulance, with its siren and emergency lights on, entered the intersection while the traffic light was red and collided with the car," he said in a statement.
Mohd Zamzuri added that video footage circulating online confirmed the ambulance's siren and emergency lights were active.
"However, the ambulance driver is required to slow down when approaching and entering an intersection. The case is under further police investigation," he said.

After the initial collision, the ambulance lost control and struck several motorcycles and another car waiting at the traffic light
A 40-year-old male motorcyclist suffered a serious fracture to his right thigh.
The other victims included the ambulance driver and passenger, four male motorcyclists, and a 9-year-old girl, who was a pillion rider on one of the motorcycles. She sustained minor injuries, including cuts and bruises.
All were treated at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
Mohd Zamzuri noted that the ambulance was not carrying any patients and was en route to pick up a patient at PPR Gombak Setia.
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
