Quick-thinking villagers in Sabah stopped a moving train after it reportedly suffered a brake failure by pushing another vehicle onto the tracks

In a Facebook post yesterday, 3 March, Melalap assemblyman Datuk Jamawi Jaafar shared details of the incident and praised the villagers for their swift action.

He said the train was carrying teachers from SK Pangi to Tenom when it experienced brake failure.

A 31-second video recorded by a passenger captured tense moments onboard, with teachers seen bracing themselves between seats and praying aloud as the train continued speeding forward

According to Jamawi, several villagers quickly intervened by placing a motorcycle trolley on the tracks, which successfully brought the train to a stop.

Photos shared showed the trolley damaged on the tracks, believed to have been crushed on impact while stopping the train.

Fortunately, all passengers and the driver were reported safe.

Jamawi has since urged the Sabah State Railway Department to conduct a full investigation and take immediate steps to prevent a similar incident from happening again

He also called on the Public Works Department to expedite the Tenom–Pangi road project, which was approved by the chief minister in 2025 and already has an appointed contractor.
