This UK Study Ranks Malaysia As The 10th Scariest Country To Drive In The World
… And the second scariest in Southeast Asia. #Malaysiaboleh, I guess?
A UK study was conducted by Scrap Car Comparison on the world's most nerve-racking nations to drive in
As part of the research, a global survey involving over 2,000 motorists was carried out.
Participants were asked to rate, on a scale from 1 to 10, how anxious they would feel about driving in different countries.
On this scale, a score of 1 represented no nervousness at all, while a score of 10 indicated a high level of anxiety behind the wheel.

India tops the list, with Venezuela and Zimbabwe close behind. Meanwhile, Malaysia ranks a surprising #10.
India takes the top spot with a nerve-racking 7.15 out of 10 on the scare scale, making it the most intimidating country for foreigners to drive in.
Venezuela and Zimbabwe follow closely, scoring 6.97 and 6.90 respectively.
And as for us here in Malaysia? We came in at a hefty #10, with a score of 6.70, not exactly comforting news for visiting drivers.

So, what's making drivers so nervous? According to the survey, these were the most common worries:
- Driving on the opposite side of the road topped the list, with 56.2% of motorists citing it as their biggest concern when driving abroad.
-
Coming in second, dangerous driving by other motorists worries 55.9% of drivers. Unpredictable road behaviour is clearly a major stress factor.
-
In third place, accidentally breaking unfamiliar road laws is a fear for 52.7% of those surveyed, proving that legal confusion is another key source of driving anxiety.
