Malaysian tycoon Robert Kuok's daughter, Kuok Hui Kwong, has been named chief executive officer (CEO) of Shangri-La Asia, one of Asia's largest hotel chains
According to the Straits Times, Hui Kwong will assume the role on 1 August after serving as the company's executive director since June 2016 and its chairperson since January 2017.
With the promotion, Hui Kwong will receive a monthly base salary of HK$576,000 (about RM312,000), along with discretionary bonuses and pension benefits.
Shangri-La Asia is listed on both the Hong Kong and Singapore stock exchanges. She holds a total direct and indirect stake of 95.57 million shares, representing about 2.7% of the company.
In a bourse filing yesterday, 16 July, the company stated that combining Hui Kwong's roles as chairperson and CEO would enhance "strategic cohesion and operational execution by ensuring a unified and consistent vision across all levels of leadership".
Founded by Kuok in 1971, Shangri-La Asia owns 81 out of the 100 hotels it operates under its four main brands: Shangri-La, Kerry, Hotel Jen, and Traders. The group's hotel properties have a net asset value of USD10.83 billion (RM46 billion).

The 47-year-old Malaysian is a Harvard University graduate with a bachelor's degree in East Asian Studies.
She previously served as managing director and CEO of SCMP Group, the publisher of the South China Morning Post. In 2016, the Kuok Group sold the media company to Alibaba, the Chinese tech giant founded by Jack Ma.
In 2024, Fortune ranked her 40th on its list of Asia's most powerful women.
Hui Kwong is the sixth of the billionaire tycoon's eight children, reported the New Straits Times.
Robert remains Malaysia's richest individual in 2025, with an estimated net worth of USD11.4 billion (about RM48 billion), according to Forbes.
