In a video shared on Xiaohongshu, Sherry recounted the experience, saying her child fell sick when they were visiting Kuala Lumpur with the family on the third day of Chinese New Year.
However, as it was early in the morning, she had to wait until 8am before she could find a pharmacy that was open to book a Grab ride.
From the moment she got in the car, Sherry shared how touched she was as the Grab driver, a friendly Indian Malaysian uncle, immediately offered to help
"Maybe he could sense how anxious I was, because he asked me what medicine I needed, and if I wanted to go to a closer pharmacy instead," she said.
Using her phone's translation app, Sherry explained her child's condition and that she would definitely prefer a closer destination. The driver immediately took her to the nearest shopping mall.
Sherry, who was filming videos along the way, showed how the driver did not just drop her off, but came down with her to help her ask for directions to a pharmacy and buy the medicine
"I could feel he was worried that I would have trouble communicating. So, he ran upstairs with me to the pharmacy and spoke to the staff, who gave me some fever medicine.
"They also used a translator to explain the dosage for my child, as well as give me some simple tips to bring the fever down," she said.
At the time, Sherry said the e-hailing app also triggered a safety alert because she had deviated from the route, but she did not know how to change the destination.
"So, I offered him RM50 as a tip, but he firmly refused and only accepted RM20, the actual fare," she said.
On the way back, the driver made one more thoughtful gesture that moved her: Without saying a word, he stopped near a breakfast shop and gestured for her to buy some food for her child.
In the video, deeply moved by the driver's thoughtfulness, Sherry gave him a big thumbs-up, saying, "Very good. I appreciate. Thank you so much!"
The driver, a little shy from the praise, waved it off, but gave her a bright smile.
"Malaysians are really so friendly to Chinese tourists," Sherry concluded in her video, adding that she's already looking forward to her next visit to Malaysia.
