Chinese national Qiuwei Anhui drowned on Sunday, 29 July, at Nusa Penida, an island just off the southeastern coast of Bali, Indonesia

Klungkung Police Insp. spokesman I Nyoman Sarjana told Tribun News that, "Upon arriving at Angel's Billabong Beach, the victim and his friend, Emeli Seth, a Dutch national, took a selfie with a sea view of the Indian ocean."

The 46-year-old tourist and his friend were taking selfies on the edge of a 10 meter high cliff when a wave crashed into them and dragged them out to sea

"The wife of the victim shouted for help," Sarjana said.

I Kadek Sinta, the group's driver, had witnessed the incident and immediately jumped in to save them.

However, he only managed to save Seth, as the rough waters had sent Anhui too far out, Coconuts Bali reported.

The victim was reportedly already dead when he was pulled out of the water by rescuers from the Lembongan Dive Centre

He was officially declared dead at the Pratama Nusa Penida Hospital, where his body was taken.

According to medical examiners, flesh from Anhui's leg was torn and there were scratches on both his hands and back.

Sarjana warned that tourists visiting the popular tourist destination should be more careful when travelling around Angel's Billabong, "especially when tidal waves tend to be large"

A similar incident happened last March.

According to Coconuts Bali, a New Zealand tourist jumped into the ocean when his girlfriend was dragged out to sea by a large wave while she was taking pictures.

His girlfriend was rescued by a snorkeler, but the 23-year-old's body was later found in Crystal Bay, around 50 meters from the cliff.
