Toddler Injured By Wolf At Zoo After Crawling Under A Fence While Parents Were On Their Phone

The child put his hand into a wolf enclosure.

An 18-month-old toddler's hand was injured by a wolf at ZooAmerica in Pennsylvania, the US

According to CBS News, the incident occurred on 4 April after the child, who was unsupervised, crawled under an exterior perimeter fence and approached a wolf enclosure.

A spokesperson said the toddler put his hand through the fence, at which point "a wolf approached and made contact with the child's hand".

Police said several bystanders quickly intervened and helped pull the child away.

The spokesperson added that the wolf's action was not considered aggressive and was consistent with natural animal behavior.

The toddler's injuries were described as minor, though no further details were provided.

Preliminary findings show that the toddler's parents, Carrie B Sortor and Stephen J B Wilson, were about 30ft away at a seating area when the incident occurred

Police said they were using their mobile phones when the wolf made contact with the toddler.

Both have been charged with one count of endangering the welfare of a child.
