A Japanese student has recently gone viral for being in a romantic relationship with an 83-year-old grandmother
In a street interview with Japan-based content creator @mapm147, the 23-year-old student, Kofu, was seen holding hands with 83-year-old Aiko.
On-screen captions reveal that @mapm147 initially believed he was interviewing a grandmother and her grandson, but they soon revealed that they were actually a couple.
In fact, they had already been dating for more than six months, and were looking forward to their anniversary on Valentine's Day.
Aiko was born in 1942, and by all accounts lives a colourful life
A horticulturalist by trade, she owns a large botanical garden and has been married twice, with her first marriage lasting 12 years and her second lasting five.
From her marriages, she has a son, a daughter, and five grandchildren.
After her second divorce, she moved in with her son's family.
Now at 83, Aiko maintains her good health by leading an active lifestyle. She met Kofu in January 2025, when several of her granddaughter's classmates visited their home.

Apparently, it was mutual, yet neither party could confess their feelings due to the 60-year age gap.
"He has such a big appetite and is gentle. I have never met such a lively young man and I was immediately attracted to him," Aiko said in Japanese.
The opportunity to confess presented itself during a visit to Disneyland, organised by Aiko's granddaughter, who later pulled out, leaving just the two of them.
Kofu said he confessed his feelings to Aiko while they were gazing at Cinderella's Castle over sunset.

They now live together, and while they have not yet talked about marriage, Kofu says he is happy to see Aiko every day when he wakes up.
Aiko cooks for him daily, and Kofu brushes her teeth before bed.
Netizens in the comments section have largely reacted with enthusiasm and disbelief
Most were supportive, with some commenting that Aiko's appearance and demeanour didn't match her age, making her seem like a younger woman.
Some asked for tips on how she maintained her looks, while others said that the two must have been lovers in a past life.
Others jokingly suggested that Aiko's granddaughter had actually wanted to get together with Kofu, but her grandmother ended up "stealing" him instead.
