New Zealand police recovered a rare RM77,000 Fabergé egg inspired by James Bond

The 007-themed jewellery was retrieved after a six-day wait for it to pass through a suspect's bowels, The Guardian reported.

The NZD33,000 (RM77,000) jewellery was recovered on 4 December 2025.

According to the authorities, the item exited the suspect's gastrointestinal tract naturally, meaning no medical intervention was needed. It was a messy end for a piece inspired by the 1983 film Octopussy.

The 32-year-old suspect was arrested inside Partridge Jewellers in Auckland on 28 November 2025

He allegedly attempted to swipe the limited-edition egg before choosing a very unconventional hiding spot.

Officers remained stationed around the clock, waiting for the evidence to re-emerge.

"Given this man is in police custody, we have a duty of care to continue monitoring him given the circumstances of what occurred," Inspector Grae Anderson said.

The man appeared in court on 29 November 2025 but did not enter a plea. He remains in custody.

The pendant is one of only 50 ever made. It is crafted from gold, painted with green enamel, and encrusted with 183 diamonds and two sapphires.

Standing at 8.4cm, the piece even features a hidden surprise inside for the ultimate Bond fan.

"The egg opens to reveal an 18ct yellow gold octopus nestled inside, adorned with white diamond suckers and black diamond eyes," the store's description read.

The 'surprise' pays homage to the antagonist in the Octopussy film.
