A Terengganu Housewife Was Jailed 10 Months For Stealing 7 Nescafe Packets

The coffee packets were worth a total of RM164.43.

Yesterday, 2 October, a 41-year-old woman was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment for stealing seven Nescafe Classic packets from a supermarket in Kuala Terengganu

According to Berita Harian, a security guard on duty at Sabasun Hypermarket on 26 September claimed to have noticed the woman, Nor Azlina Mamat, acting suspiciously in the coffee aisle.

He asked a colleague to check CCTV footage from the aisle while he kept an eye on her as she walked around. The security guard caught the housewife shortly after, when she left abruptly without making any payment.

The seven 300g Nescafe packets that Nor Azlina pleaded guilty to stealing was worth a total of RM164.43

She was charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in any building, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment and a fine.

The housewife did not have any legal representation when she appeared in the Kuala Terengganu court

The prosecution was handled by prosecuting officer Inspector Miky Dunstan Muda, Berita Harian reported.
