A teacher in Dezhou, Shandong province, has traded traditional detention for a more creative punishment.

When several 15-year-old boys arrived late for class, their teacher, Feng, decided to turn their penalty into a performance.

Instead of making them stand in a corner for hours, the students were ushered onto a podium to perform a choreographed routine.

They danced earnestly to the 2009 hit song Mistake, much to the delight of their laughing classmates.

The video quickly went viral on social media, earning them the nickname "wrongdoers boyband" for coming in late to class.

Feng, who had six years of teaching experience, said that lateness was a minor issue

She believes that a gentle reminder is warmer than a harsh punishment, which could make children afraid of making mistakes.

The video of the performance has garnered more than a million likes on social media, with many users praising the humane approach.

Even the parents were on board with the creative disciplinary measure. One mother admitted her family laughed to tears and thanked Feng for the fun punishment, though she promised to wake her son up earlier.

On 17 December, Feng shared a follow-up video of the boys performing even more complex moves.

She believes that happiness and learning should not conflict, and that children are more motivated to learn and improve in a relaxed environment.

This incident reflected a wider trend of compassionate teaching in China.
