A 37-year-old man was arrested yesterday, 2 October, for sexually assaulting two of his students. The victims are 10-year-old primary school boys.

According to a report by New Straits Times, the man was summoned to the Serian district police headquarters on Monday after the two boys lodged police reports against him.

The suspect is a primary school teacher in Serian.

He had allegedly molested the first victim in May 2017.

The man had allegedly instructed the boy to go to the school's Student Affairs Department office and sexually assaulted him there.

"The suspect then locked the door and allegedly started molesting the victim. The second case happened in August 2017 when the second victim was brought into a storeroom at the same school.

"Once inside, the teacher allegedly tried to molest the pupil but was stopped by the boy, who then escaped and ran straight to his classroom," explained Sarawak Criminal Investigations Department chief Datuk Dev Kumar, as reported by the Borneo Post

According to Dev Kumar, the students' parents claimed that they had previously reported the incidents to the school's administration but to no avail

It was only after they realised no action was taken against the suspect, that they decided to lodge police reports on the matter.

"We have reason to believe there may be more victims," added Dev Kumar.

The case is being investigated under Section 14(a), (b) and (d) of the Sexual Crimes Against Children Act 2017.
