Four Form 5 students accused of being involved in the alleged gang rape of a Form 3 student at a secondary school in Alor Gajah, Melaka, will still be allowed to sit for their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations

The 2025 SPM exams are scheduled to begin with the speaking and practical tests on 3 November, followed by the written papers later in the month.

According to Malay Mail, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the decision was made to ensure the students' right to education is upheld, despite the ongoing police investigation.

"SPM will proceed as planned. We will ensure they do not fall behind in their education even though the investigation is ongoing," she was quoted as saying after a meeting with the Melaka State Education Department yesterday, 12 October.

The case drew public attention after reports surfaced that a 15-year-old student was allegedly raped by two senior students in a classroom about 2.50pm on 2 October

According to the New Straits Times, the victim had reportedly returned to her classroom to retrieve a Science project item when she was allegedly dragged inside and raped by two suspects, while the other two students witnessed and recorded the act using a mobile phone.

The incident came to light after a video of the assault was circulated among students. Teachers were alerted to it on 10 October and subsequently informed the victim's mother, who then lodged a police report.

Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar confirmed that all four 17-year-old suspects were arrested on Saturday, 11 October

The case is being investigated under Section 375B of the Penal Code for gang rape.

Fadhlina said the victim remains hospitalised and is receiving treatment and psychological counselling.

She added that counsellors will be deployed to the school to provide emotional and psychosocial support, and reminded the public to respect laws protecting the identities of minors.
