So it turns out that host Steve Harvey was right after all.

The winner of the 'Best National Costume' for Miss Universe 2019 is indeed Miss Universe Philippines Gazini Ganados.

The Miss Universe official Twitter account confirmed this in a tweet today, 9 December.

It was previously reported that Miss Universe Malaysia took the title

However, she was apparently only called onstage to show off her national costume.

"Miss Universe Philippines Gazini Ganados is the winner of the Miss Universe 2019 National Costume contest. As part of the broadcast, we also featured Miss Universe Malaysia Shweta Sekhon's national costume," an insider said, according to Deadline.

"Miss Sekhon wasn't aware we'd be announcing the Philippines first, so she jumped the gun when Mr. Harvey started with that news. Mr. Harvey made a joke of it, but no mistakes regarding the national costume winner were made by him, the prompter or production."

The official video of the interview with Miss Universe Malaysia has since been removed from Twitter. Here's a short clip of it:

Harvey had accidentally read that Miss Philippines won 'Best National Costume', to which Miss Malaysia had to correct him.

He previously admitted that he was just reading the teleprompter and that they were rectifying the problem.
