A massive piece of metallic hardware, believed to be space debris, was recently discovered by villagers in Pekan, Pahang
The object washed ashore at Kampung Tanjung, Nenasi at about 5pm on 30 December 2025.
According to the New Straits Times, citing Pekan district police chief Supt Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin, the debris likely fell from space before drifting to the beach.
Mohd Zaidi said authorities were immediately alerted to investigate the unusual metallic object.

Officials from the Science, Technology, and Innovation Ministry (MOSTI) led the technical investigation
Experts from the Malaysian Atomic Energy Department later scanned the object for biological, chemical, or radiological hazards and confirmed it is free from radiation.
While the jagged metal looks intimidating, it poses no immediate threat to Pekan residents or the environment.

Measuring approximately 4.26m by 3.64m, the object is estimated to weigh several hundred kilogrammes
Photos show its surface covered in barnacles, suggesting it spent a significant amount of time submerged in the sea.
The object has been moved to the Nenasi police station for safety and further analysis, currently held behind police tape as the ministry prepares a more detailed investigation into its origins.
"Initial investigations found that the debris is believed to have fallen from space into the sea before being washed to the beach," said Mohd Zaidi in statement on 1 January 2026.
