A 17-year-old South Korean student has made history by becoming the first from her country to achieve a perfect 10 A+ score in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2025 examination

According to The Borneo Post, Kim Na-eun obtained the highest grade in Bahasa Melayu, English, Moral, History, Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Bible Knowledge.

Her father, Kim Tae-ho, said the family was overwhelmed when they collected her results at SMK St Columba in Miri, Sarawak on Tuesday, 31 March.

"I cried the moment she told me her results. We did not expect her to get straight A+ in all subjects, including Bahasa Malaysia, as she struggled with learning Bahasa Malaysia during her primary school years," he said.

Tae-ho moved to from South Korea to Miri with his family in 2013

Na-eun was 5 at the time and began her schooling at SK St Columba, then continued her secondary education at SMK St Columba.

Tae-ho, a taekwondo master who teaches children with special needs, said his daughter did not attend any external tuition classes and spent her free time training taekwondo daily.

"My daughter is a fourth Dan black belt (Kukkiwon) in taekwondo and trains every day.

"She also participates in national and international championships — that's why we are so surprised and proud of her results," he said.

Na-eun said her taekwondo training played a key role in building the discipline and resilience needed to cope with the demands of SPM

"Now that my SPM results are finally out, I plan to take A Levels before pursuing dentistry.

"But before that, I am focusing on my training for the upcoming 107th Korea National Sports Festival on 17 October in Jeju Island, South Korea," she said.
