A snatch theft attempt at Oriental Kopi was foiled after staff intervened and recovered a customer's bag during an incident at its AEON Bukit Indah outlet in Johor Bahru on 11 April
The company said the incident occurred while a group of customers were dining.
The suspect allegedly pretended to be on a phone call before moving to the back of the restaurant.
He then circled back and snatched an elderly woman's bag from behind her.
The act happened within seconds, leaving those nearby momentarily caught off guard.
However, several employees reacted quickly and pursued the suspect
They managed to stop him before he could leave the premises and successfully retrieved the stolen bag.
The bag was subsequently returned to the customer, who was unharmed.
In a statement, Oriental Kopi thanked its staff for their swift response and teamwork in handling the situation
"The incident occurred unexpectedly. A heartfelt thank you to our team for their swift response and teamwork in turning a moment of concern into reassurance," the company said.
It also reminded the public to remain vigilant and keep an eye on personal belongings when dining out, adding that customer safety remains a top priority.
