Selangor PAS has assured voters that it will not ban lottery outlets if it comes into power in the next state election

Speaking to China Press during a visit to its office on Monday, 6 October, state party commissioner Ab Halim Tamuri said PAS would adopt a more inclusive approach if it were to govern Selangor, noting that the state differs from Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, and Perlis.

"It's impossible that PAS would come to power today and shut down (lottery outlets) tomorrow.

"There will definitely be discussions and consultations beforehand, and the government will also carry out evaluations. We are a democratic country, and any decision must be made through consensus," he said.

When asked whether PAS is capable of governing an urban area, Ab Halim said his experience as the assemblyperson for Paya Jaras shows that it would not be an issue

"Urban governance is not an issue. Voters today focus on capable individuals. PAS has attracted professionals and academics from various backgrounds to build a better government," he said.

Ab Halim acknowledged that the party continues to face stereotypes, such as being perceived as a party for rural Malays. However, he said PAS has evolved significantly over the past 20 years.

"We now emphasise the concept of 'PAS for all'. Our responsibility is to take care of the welfare of everyone, regardless of whether they are Muslim or not. No one will be left behind," he said.

He also admitted that Islamophobia exists, but said it mainly stems from misunderstandings and misinformation. He added that PAS has been working to bridge the gap by organising forums and dialogue sessions to promote mutual understanding.
