The government has saved an estimated 334,000 litres of fuel since its work-from-home (WFH) policy began on 15 April
"From 15 April until yesterday (21 April), estimated savings amounted to 334,000 litres of fuel, equivalent to RM678,000," said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil at a briefing on 22 April.
To date, a total of 155,000 civil servants registered for the programme, trading their morning commutes for home setups to help both the environment and the national budget.
According to the New Straits Times, Putrajaya is also tightening its belt by slashing overseas travel and prioritising virtual meetings for all departments.

Fahmi noted that agencies must now use government premises for training and workshops
"This includes conducting more meetings online to reduce face-to-face meetings," he added.
The chief secretary to the government is now tasked with gathering similar data from the private sector to see if these remote savings can be replicated nationwide.

The WFH policy officially kicked off on 15 April for the federal public sector, including ministries, statutory bodies, and government-linked companies (GLCs)
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim initially introduced the move to reduce fuel consumption and support sustainable energy amidst concerns over the West Asia conflict.
While office desks may be empty, public-facing services such as counter transactions continued to operate as usual to ensure that citizens were not left stranded.
