Sarawak-owned airline AirBorneo has officially opened ticket sales, with flights scheduled to begin on 14 January 2026 — marking a major milestone in the state's entry into commercial aviation

A check on AirBorneo's website, launched on 10 December, shows that the airline currently only operates regional routes within Sarawak and Sabah.

In terms of pricing, economy return fares for flights from Kuching to Sibu start at around RM482, while a return trip from Kota Kinabalu to Miri costs about RM548.

As a full-service carrier, the base fare includes 20kg of checked baggage, seat selection, an in-flight meal, and 7kg of hand-carry allowance.

The airline's launch comes amid broader plans by the Sarawak government to expand AirBorneo beyond domestic connectivity

According to The Borneo Post, the airline plans to introduce direct flights to Singapore and South Korea, a move expected to boost tourism and improve regional mobility.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said AirBorneo is targeting the introduction of jet operations by July 2026, transitioning from propeller aircraft as the airline scales up its network.

As for the airline's cabin crew uniforms, Abang Johari said the final designs are still being refined and will feature elements of Sarawak's cultural identity, adding that the airline aims to be competitive with carriers such as AirAsia.

AirBorneo is a rebranded entity of MASwings, following the Sarawak state government's acquisition of the airline from Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) under a sale and purchase agreement signed on 12 February 2025.

The airline has assured passengers that the transition from MASwings to AirBorneo has been carefully planned to ensure continuity of service, with no impact on existing bookings

Travellers can now purchase tickets directly via AirBorneo's website for travel from 14 January 2026 onwards. For travel before that date, tickets remain available through the MASwings website.

Alternatively, tickets can be purchased via AirBorneo's call centre at 1-300-22-1388 (toll-free for local callers) or +6082-537 555 (for international callers).
