Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) will stop airing its channels on Astro beginning 1 July, ending nearly 30 years of collaboration between the two broadcasters

According to the New Straits Times, a circular dated 11 May said both parties were unable to reach an agreement on pricing for the continued carriage of RTM channels on Astro's platforms.

In the circular, RTM said that despite years of cooperation and ongoing discussions over rental and service costs, both sides could not finalise terms that matched their operational needs and financial capabilities.

As a result, RTM said it will discontinue the broadcast of its channels — TV1-HD, TV2-HD, and Okey — on Astro's satellite service and its over-the-top (OTT) platform from 1 July 2026.

RTM and Astro have worked together since 1996, when TV1 and TV2 were first made available on the satellite platform

The partnership later expanded to include Okey, previously known as Muzik Aktif and TVi, in 2009.

RTM said its collaboration with Astro also extended to several joint production projects, which benefited viewers of both organisations.

However, it said rising channel rental costs had brought increasing financial pressure, making it more practical to end the arrangement as costs became harder to sustain.
