A crafty robber stole 220,000 yuan (RM119,100) in valuables after sneaking into a woman's house hidden inside a wooden crate

According to South China Morning Post, the robbery took place on 9 October at a residential building in Hunan Province, China.

A delivery worker was hired to transport the crate — with the robber hidden inside — to evade security and surveillance cameras.

The crate was placed at an exit passageway, allowing the robber to slip out and follow the woman to her house.

The robber stole 230g of gold valued at 200,000 yuan (RM118,000) and 2,000 yuan (RM1,180) in cash from the woman after pretending to be a debt collector

The victim was then forced to ingest sleeping pills to prevent her from alerting the authorities.

As the woman remained unconscious, the robber spent around four hours removing traces of evidence before sneaking back into the crate and hiring another delivery worker to transport it away.

The woman alerted the police after she regained consciousness.

Police eventually arrested the robber on 18 October after initially struggling to find leads or evidence during the investigation

It took around 50 police officers to nab the robber. It's believed they used a combination of surveillance footage, logistics data, fingerprints, and phone signals to find and arrest him.

The robber has been identified by police as Zhao, a 46-year-old man from Zhejiang Province. He claimed to be inspired by TV dramas to pull off the robbery.

All stolen gold has been returned to the woman.
