Berita Harian reported that the man received his sentence from Judge Mahyon Talib at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court today.
On top of his 18-year jail sentence, the 26-year-old will also get five strokes of the cane.

According to Sin Chew Daily, the man was not represented by a lawyer in court today.
Deputy public prosecutor Nurliyana Mohd Jafri then told the court that G. Thinathayaalan should be slapped with a heavy sentence for his crime.
"This case has gained public attention… The victim suffered injuries to her head, face, and body. She is still in trauma to this day," Nurliyana said, according to Berita Harian.
