A Facebook post by the city council on Thursday, 15 October, states that people are urged to discard face masks in rubbish bins.
Photos show MBPP workers picking up many used disposable masks on roads and in other public spaces where people have tossed them

"Appreciate the hard work of the MBPP Yellow Shirt heroes who are always trying to clean up our state," reads the caption on the post.
In the comments, Malaysians thanked these unsung heroes for cleaning up the environment

One person pointed out that leaving used face masks lying around could be a reason why the virus continues to spread.
Meanwhile, several urged the public to take responsibility for their own masks and not expect someone else to pick up after them.
