The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN) has extended the deadline for submitting the Tax Return Form (BN) for the Year of Assessment 2025

According to a recent statement by LHDN, instead of the original 30 April cutoff, you now have until 15 May 2026 to file.

The 15-day extension comes as part of the move towards mandatory e-Filing, giving taxpayers a bit more time to submit their returns accurately and completely, especially if you're still scrambling to gather documents.

This applies to individuals and non-individuals who are not carrying on a business, including organisations, estates, and Hindu joint families.

Even with the extra time, LHDN is advising taxpayers not to wait till the last minute, as the system tends to get congested closer to the deadline

Filing earlier also gives you room to fix any mistakes if needed.

It also said missing the deadline could result in penalties under the Income Tax Act 1967, so it's really not something you want to ignore.

If you haven't started, now is a good time to prep everything — your income details, receipts, and supporting documents — and go through them properly before submitting.
