Program Anak Kita is a national education initiative that has been quietly working behind the scenes over the past two years

Spearheaded by the Education Ministry and Finance Ministry, with support from Unit Pantau MADANI and Yayasan Hasanah, the programme focuses on improving literacy and numeracy, boosting the SPM passing rate, and reintegrating students into the education system.

As of 2025, Program Anak Kita has reached 83,371 students across more than 2,500 schools nationwide, giving them access to remedial lessons, digital tools, small grants for schools, and targeted support.

The programme combines three main components to support children at different stages of schooling:

1. Program SPM (2024, 2025)

This component supports SPM candidates who are at risk of dropping out by focusing on compulsory pass subjects — Bahasa Melayu, Sejarah, and Mathematics.

In 2024, it reached 10,119 students across 343 secondary schools and achieved an impressive 88% pass rate, with 8,855 students successfully obtaining their SPM certificates. The 2025 edition is currently underway, involving 20,000 students.

2. Program 3M

Aimed at Year 2 to Year 6 students in remedial classes who struggle with basic literacy and numeracy, this programme introduces digital learning tools, customised teaching modules, gamified lessons, and classroom assistants.

Schools can also access small grants of up to RM2,500 to design interventions suited to their communities. Teacher training and support are a major focus to ensure long-term impact.

Covering 53,252 students across 1,288 primary schools in seven states, the programme has already reintegrated 29% (15,543) into mainstream classes as of March 2025.

3. Program Murid Cicir

Designed to keep students in school until completion, this component provides personalised support to those at risk of dropping out.

Assistance may include transport, school supplies, food vouchers, or counselling sessions, depending on individual needs. In 2025, the programme reached 500 students across five states, helping them stay engaged and continue their education.

All in all, Program Anak Kita shows how focused interventions can narrow education gaps and give children a second chance

By combining remedial literacy, exam-focused support, and dropout prevention, the programme strengthens the education safety net for Malaysia's most vulnerable students.
