Kedah police chief Commissioner Datuk Adzli Abu Shah said the incident occurred around 3.30pm following a public tip-off about suspicious activity at the premises

"Acting on the information, a team of five Criminal Investigation Department policemen in two vehicles was dispatched to the location. Upon arrival, our men encountered the suspects in the act," he said.

"One of [the suspects], who was behind the wheel of a Lexus, accelerated and rammed into our policeman just as he exited his vehicle. He was run over and died at the scene.

"This is a tragic loss for the police force, especially for us in Kedah," said the police chief.

One suspect was arrested at the scene, while the other three fled in the stolen Lexus

During their escape, they reportedly hijacked another car, but were tracked down and arrested in Kepala Batas, Jitra, within the hour.

All four suspects, aged between 24 and 26, have been apprehended.

Initial investigations revealed that one of the suspects had 77 prior offences, mostly involving house break-ins and car theft. Another had 30 previous charges, while the remaining two had six and two, respectively.

"They appear to be part of a mobile burglary syndicate operating across state borders. We are working closely with other contingents, including Johor, to determine whether this was a random strike or a job based on insider information," said the chief.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and Section 457 for housebreaking.
