Kelantan police have uncovered a long-running tactic where Malaysians, including civil servants, have been illegally crossing into Thailand without valid documents

According to the New Straits Times, the travellers bypass the system by simply waving their hands at border checkpoints.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said travellers were found using illegal 'VIP lanes' at the Rantau Panjang Immigration, Customs, Quarantine, and Security (ICQS) complex to cross in and out of Thailand.

He noted that most cases involved saloon cars and luxury vehicles that often cross the border for leisure and business activities, with some even disguising themselves as enforcement officers

"They do this just to enjoy Thai food, have fun, and network with government officers in the neighbouring country for personal or business interests. But they do not realise that if caught, they can be fined or jailed under the Immigration Act," said Mohd Yusoff.

He warned that while some may have avoided detection in the past, they will eventually be caught.

He stressed there would be no compromise against anyone violating border laws

This warning was issued after eight individuals, including two women, were detained on Tuesday, 4 November, for entering Kelantan without proper documentation after returning from Sungai Golok, a popular destination for Malaysians seeking cheaper food, shopping, and entertainment.
