At a recent press conference showcasing a huge drug seizure, police handed out face masks to reporters as the pungent smell of the narcotics posed a health risk

According to China Press, police displayed more than 3,586kg of various types of ecstasy and drug-making equipment at the press conference yesterday, 17 September.

Despite being held in an open space, the smell of the drugs was overwhelming, with some reporters reportedly experiencing rapid heartbeats, eye irritation, and dry throats.

Police said the seized drugs could have supplied around 12 million users if distributed

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the bust was conducted under Op Pine on 10 September, following weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering, reported Malay Mail.

The Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) raided several industrial premises in Kepong and a house in Dataran Templer, Selangor, leading to the arrest of four local men aged between 34 and 51.

The seizure included:

Item description Quantity Weight
Liquid suspected to be ecstasy 136 drums and 1 plastic container 3,330 kg
Chemical liquids 563 glass bottles 1,200 kg
Chemical powder 8 drums and 6 plastic bags 213.7 kg
Ecstasy powder/chunks 2 plastic packages and 1 plastic drum 25.3 kg

Chemical liquids 41 plastic drums and 2 glass bottles 947.35 kg
More chemical powder 1 plastic container and 2 plastic packages 52.4 kg

Police believe the drugs were intended for distribution both locally and abroad, including Indonesia and Australia, if the syndicate's operations had not been disrupted.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act, which carries the mandatory death penalty or life imprisonment with whipping.
