Police are investigating an incident after a viral social media post claimed that a firecracker explosion injured seven individuals, including children, in Pendang, Kedah

According to Bernama, Pendang district police chief Supt Rodzi Abu Hassan said the incident is believed to have taken place on the eve of Hari Raya last Friday, 20 March, and the victims were taken to the emergency department at Pendang Hospital for treatment.

Rodzi said police arrested a 21-year-old man yesterday, 23 March, to assist with investigations following the viral post

"The suspect admitted he was playing with mercun bola (firecracker balls) with six relatives when one of the firecrackers became lodged in a plastic bag containing similar firecrackers, triggering an explosion.

"Six victims, aged between 11 and 20, who were near the scene were injured in the blast. All victims, including the suspect, suffered injuries to their faces and bodies and received outpatient treatment at Pendang Hospital," he said.

One victim was later referred to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar for further treatment due to serious eye injuries.
