The Royal Malaysia Police's (PDRM) K9 unit showed exactly what they're made of during a recent special demonstration for Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay

According to PDRM's Facebook post on Monday, 16 February, the Deputy IGP was conducting an official working visit to assess the readiness and operational capabilities of the police dog unit at the Bukit Aman Police Training Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

The K9 unit, which operates under the Criminal Investigation Department's Technical Assistance Division (D6), plays a crucial role in supporting crime-fighting efforts, with highly trained dogs working alongside their handlers in various operations.

The exercises were carried out to test the discipline, coordination, and efficiency between the dogs and their handlers, as they would be used in detection work and special response tasks

Concluding the visit, the Deputy IGP, accompanied by CID director Datuk M Kumar, met with the handlers and their canines. He also inspected the K9 kennel facilities to ensure the unit's infrastructure, welfare, health, and logistical needs continue to be prioritised.

The Facebook post has since received praise from social media users, who described the demonstration as an amazing display of hard work and effort

"The officers, handlers, and their special K9 dogs — thank you for your dedication and service," one netizen commented.

According to Malay Mail, as of 2025, PDRM has 68 trained K9 dogs nationwide.

Each dog is trained in a specialty of its breed, including suspect apprehension, search and rescue, narcotics detection, cadaver recovery, explosive and firearm detection, and even electronic storage device detection.

One of the stars of the day was Charles, a seven-year-old German Shepherd specialising in cadaver detection
